Discover a world of amethysts, pearls and fossils, immerse yourself in the spa waters of Therme Laa, explore a national park or find out more about the fascinating history of the Weinviertel region in its museums, castles, stately homes and wine cellars.

Damsels in distress and haunted houses

The palaces of the Marchfeld, the popular film location of Burg Kreuzenstein or the ruins at Burg Falkenstein – the Weinviertel region is dotted with castles, palaces and stately homes.
Mighty castles and ruins sit atop rock faces and hills, high above the winegrowing towns and villages of the Weinviertel. Burg Kreuzenstein castle, a familiar sight from film and television, is often in demand as a location for international productions. It is always worth a visit, as is its counterpart Burg Falkenstein.
The region’s palaces and stately homes are also open to visitors and offer special tours and exhibitions. Highlights include Schloss Wilfersdorf, which is owned by the Liechtenstein family, as well as nearby Schloss Wolkersdorf. The palaces in the Marchfeld region are a real treat for visitors, chief among them Schloss Hof!

Stunning vistas

Enjoy sublime views of the beautiful Weinviertel region! Take in the gently rolling landscapes of the Weinviertel and savour the unparalleled views below. ‘High above’ is relative, particularly when it comes to the Weinviertel, where the highest point is below 500m and the clouds and sky are always far away. That said, there are some beautiful spots with amazing views over the landscapes below – in some places even across national borders. From the panorama point on the Oberleiser Berg hill you can see all the way to the Rax and Schneeberg mountains, the Carpathians and the Pálava Hills in the neighbouring Czech Republic.
