Description

The Altenberg (296 m) is located directly on the circular hiking trail "In den Weingärten" and approx. 2 km from the village of Zellerndorf. The name Altenberg comes from the Celtic "alto", meaning "sublime" and "holy". The finds and natural monuments Devil's Stone, Devil's Eye, Devil's Shoe and Sun Stone point to a place of power and worship. The view from the Altenberg extends over the entire market town of Zellerndorf.

If you are traveling to Altenberg by car, it is advisable to park in the wine cellar lane between Zellerndorf and Pillersdorf, as there is hardly any parking available on the access road. From the wine cellar lane, turn into the paved dirt road on foot and walk approx. 500 meters until the asphalt road ends. Here the path continues to the right to Altenberg.
