The Way of St James in the Weinviertel region

153 km from Drasenhofen to Krems

Faster, higher, further – this motto is not really suited to the Weinviertel. Here, the rolling countryside sets the pace, well-timed and carefully measured. Serenity is a top priority in the Weinviertel, and so one might almost think that the region was created especially for pilgrimage

Stretching 153 km, the Weinviertel Way of St James runs from Drasenhofen to Krems. Since the Weinviertel Way of St James opened in 2010, the Weinviertel has therefore been part of the international pilgrimage movement.

153 km in search of a fulfilling life and a sense of purpose

Starting from Drasenhofen, the Weinviertel Way of St James leads to Poysdorf, Austria’s wine town; via Mistelbach, pilgrims reach the highest point in the Weinviertel, the Buschberg. There are wonderful views from the Michelberg, and you can enjoy superb vistas of the fertile wine-growing landscape at the regional wine shop in Kirchberg. The proximity to Krems already begins to stir feelings of joy, as this marks the completion of the section after a pilgrimage of around six days; the connection to the Göttweig–Melk Way of St James is also made here.

Pure pilgrimage pleasure

The vastness of the landscape and the picturesque vineyards and wine cellar lanes make the Weinviertel Way of St James a special experience at any time of year. Immerse yourself in the delightful tranquillity of the Weinviertel – let yourself be enchanted by the region’s peace and the beauty of the landscape, and recharge your batteries after a strenuous day’s pilgrimage with a glass of wine or a traditional Heurigen snack.
