The Blauburger Wine Cycle Route takes you past meadows and forests. This bike tour takes you back to prehistoric times and invites you to observe local wildlife in its natural habitat. Cycle through the charming and fascinating landscape of the Leiser Mountains!
The steep, forested sections between Ernstbrunn and Röhrabrunn are not suitable for road bikes.
The “Blauburger” bike route starts at the train station in Mistelbach, which you can easily reach by train (S2). In Mistelbach, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the“MAMUZ Museum Mistelbach” and the“Nitsch Museum.” From Mistelbach, you’ll cycle to Asparn an der Zaya. Here, at MAMUZ Schloss Asparn, you can experience prehistory up close—from the Paleolithic Age to the Celts. Asparn is also the starting point for the Weinviertel handcar— a unique “cycling adventure”—which takes you to Ernstbrunn.
From Asparn, the bike tour takes you to Gnadendorf, Eichenbrunn, and Röhrabrunn. Numerous “cyclist-friendly restaurants” along this section offer you the chance to refuel before tackling a slightly steeper stretch of the route. Between Röhrabrunn and Dörfles, you’ll cycle a longer stretch through wooded areas and the charming landscape of the Leiser Berge Nature Park. In Dörfles, be sure to visit the Ernstbrunn Wildlife Park, where you can observe native wildlife in its natural habitat. You also shouldn’t miss the nearby excavations at Oberleiserberg, where a 5th-century Germanic royal court was discovered.
After this steeper climb, followed by a rapid “descent,” the route continues through mostly flat terrain via Ernstbrunn to Ladendorf. Here, a Weinviertel demonstration garden and the double-row avenue of linden trees invite you to enjoy a leisurely exploration. You’ll then cycle past Paasdorf back to the starting point in Mistelbach.
The starting point of the bike route is right on the station plaza. There is a large parking lot available at the station.
Mistelbach is directly accessible by car via the B46 federal highway.
Mistelbach can be reached from both Vienna and Laa/Thaya by bus or train.
Be sure to visit the Ernstbrunn Wildlife Park along the route.
In the Weinviertel region, there are over 100 “Radpartner” establishments that cater specifically to the needs of cyclists. You can find a list of all these businesses on our “Cycling Partners” page. Using the filter function, you can easily view the businesses along your desired cycling route. Additional filters allow you to search for suitable lodging or dining options.
