Kainz Mühle

Guided tours are available by appointment.

As a so-called artificial mill, the Kainz mill used modern, "artificial" roller mills instead of conventional millstones - a special technical feature that ensured the supply of many people in the region.

A flour mill has stood below the Pernhartsdorf castle since the 11th century - always owned by the respective lords of the manor. After Count Pernhart, the Eizingers from Schrattenthal and the Count of Hardegg, Anton Kainz acquired the mill in 1864, which was in operation until the death of the last miller's only daughter in 1973.

After more than 50 years of slumber, the mill has now been lovingly restored and is once again open to visitors. The entire interior has been preserved on four levels - visitors can follow the path from grain to flour and experience the milling of days gone by at first hand.
