The tour begins at the train station in Ziersdorf. You’ll ride through the town heading south toward Glaubendorf. There, you’ll go under the B4 and follow the road until you leave the town again after crossing the railroad tracks. This is followed by a beautiful stretch—partly unpaved—with magnificent views, lined with vineyards and fields.

The next town is Radlbrunn, home to the well-known cultural venue Brandlhof. You’ll continue cycling along the L1251, past Ebersbrunn, until you turn left at the L43 and reach Hohenwarth. At the entrance to this well-known wine-growing village, turn left immediately; the road descends briefly. Here, you’ll take a loop through the village center and emerge again at the former fortified church.

The route continues to Mühlbach am Manhartsberg. The village is home to the birthplace of the dialect poet Joseph Misson and the privately owned Mühlbach Castle with its beautiful castle park, including an orangery. You’ll leave the village heading north and cycle across the fields to Zemling, Eggendorf am Walde, and Grübern, home to the Amethyst Chapel. Next comes Wilhelmsdorf, where you should check out the large herb spiral .

Via Oberravelsbach, you’ll reach Ravelsbach, where the Jakob Prandtauer Church stands in the town center. We recommend taking a detour to the Baroque garden to snap a photo in front of the giant keyhole. The next stop is Maissau, the “Amethyst Town,” home to the must-see Amethyst World, where you can explore the amethyst mine, the Gem House, or the Amethyst Park.

The next towns are Oberdürnbach and Unterdürnbach, home to the fragrant lavender show garden, which features over 100 different varieties of lavender. Once you reach Minichhofen, turn right and, after passing the Gillimühle, you’ll arrive in Gaindorf. After leaving the village behind, continue parallel to the Horner B4 federal highway toward Ziersdorf. Just before the town, however, turn right to reach Großmeiseldorf. After passing through the village, the route takes you across the fields again to Radlbrunn. Here, keep left and take the L1251 toward Ziersdorf. After a short ride through town, you’ll arrive at your destination: the train station.

The route is suitable for touring bikes, mountain bikes, and gravel bikes.

If you’re traveling by car, we recommend starting the tour in Heldenberg. From here, a signposted “Schmidatal Wine Experience Tour” leads to Ziersdorf, from where you can then start the tour using your navigation system. Be sure to allow enough time so you can also visit the attractions in Heldenberg—such as the Radetzky Memorial, the English Garden, the Classic Car Museum, or the LPSM Wine Shop.
