At just under 40 km, the tour is not too strenuous and, in view of the many sights along the way, it can easily be extended to a day trip.
It impresses with its varied landscape and the different wine cellar lanes. For example, the press houses in the Viehtrift wine cellar lane in Straning are lined up on both sides of the road and are mostly two or three storeys high, which is a special feature. The wine cellar lane in Wartberg, on the other hand, meanders along below the church with its rather small cellars and is a popular photo motif in combination with the church. No less attractive is the wine cellar lane in Niederschleinz, whose "houses without chimneys", as the cellars are popularly known, have been lovingly restored.
In order to make the excursion as pleasant as possible for cyclists, some winegrowing families have set up cozy cyclists' rest stops , for example in Etzmannsdorf, Wartberg, Röschitz and Roseldorf. Here you can refresh yourself with chilled drinks before continuing your exciting tour.

A few short sections run along State Road L50, where there may be heavier traffic.
We start at the train station in Limberg and head straight north on our bikes. Soon we come to a viaduct, and after that the road is unpaved for a few kilometers. The first climbs follow, but they’re easy to handle at the start of the ride.
The route then winds its way through wide fields and several vineyards to Straning. As you leave Straning, you’ll pass through the Viehtrift wine cellar lane with its 65 wine press houses. You’ll cycle over the Geißberg, which rises to 380 meters, and before you know it, you’ll find yourself in the next wine cellar lane, in Etzmannsdorf. It’s well worth taking a break here at the Vogler family’s bike rest stop.
The tour then takes you past large farmlands as St. Leonhard Church comes into view. It sits atop a hill and can be seen from a distance. It’s best to get off your bike, walk around the church, and enjoy the view. On the way down into the village, you’ll pass through the wine cellar lane in Wartberg before heading straight to Klein Reinprechtsdorf.
Continue cycling toward Röschitz. If you have enough time, you should pay a visit to this Veltlin stronghold. It’s home to a large number of winemakers who have known how to produce fine wine for generations. Back on the bike path, it’s just a few more kilometers to Roseldorf. Just before you enter Braunsdorf, you’ll see the Trappenturm on the hillside to your left—a visible symbol of the successful efforts to protect the great bustards, of which there are still a few in this region.
You’ll continue cycling at a leisurely pace through Braunsdorf and Goggendorf to Sitzendorf a. d. Schmida and Frauendorf. It’s worth taking a short detour to Lohrkellergasse and Rosenbergkellergasse, where you can take a break in the shade of the trees.
Refreshed, you’ll leave the village behind and, after a long straight stretch leading through expansive fields, arrive in Niederschleinz. The tour continues along the picturesque wine cellar lane: here, once again, wine press houses line up one after another like beads on a string. You’ll enjoy a beautiful view between the wine press houses. Now it’s just a few more kilometers to the Limberg train station.
Limberg is located just 2 km off the well-maintained B4 and is therefore very easy to reach by car.
Limberg is accessible via the Franz-Josefs-Bahn, a railway line that runs from Vienna to the Waldviertel region. The station is called Limberg-Maissau.
The route is suitable for touring bikes, mountain bikes, and gravel bikes.

Between Röschitz and Roseldorf, you’ll cycle along theWeinviertel DAC bike route, and from Klein Reinprechtsdorf via Röschitz and Roseldorf to Frauendorf a. d. Schmida, the tour follows the signposted Riesling Wine Cycle Route. In Sitzendorf, you’ll also come across the RIVANER Wine Cycle Route. This gives you the option to switch to other bike paths and extend the tour.
