Pulkauer Blutkirche

Church

Description

The Pulkau Church of the Blood, officially known as the Church of the Precious Blood of Christ, is a remarkable example of 14th century Gothic architecture in Austria. It was built after an alleged miracle of the host in 1338 and is known for its unique late Gothic winged altar, which was completed around 1515. This altar, which is attributed to the Danube School and the Pulkau Master, is one of the finest examples of its kind in Austria. The church itself is an architectural enigma, as it resembles a torso in shape and invites visitors to imagine what it would have looked like in its completed state. The interior of the church is characterized by the height of the hall, which is well lit by high Gothic windows. The Pulkauer Blutkirche is undoubtedly a must-see for anyone interested in history, architecture or religious art.
