At MAMUZ Schloss Asparn/Zaya, you can experience 40,000 years of human history in just one day!

The MAMUZ is an adventure museum and knowledge center for prehistory and historical archaeology. At two locations - Asparn/Zaya Castle and Mistelbach Museum - there are topics to discover relating to 40,000 years of mankind! At MAMUZ Schloss Asparn/Zaya, these are presented in an exciting way in the exhibition, in the annually changing special exhibitions and in the archaeological outdoor area.

Special exhibition 2025 "The language of the goddesses"

The exhibition presents prehistoric depictions, primarily from Austria, and confronts its guests with works by contemporary female artists, which demonstrate the immense fascination of new art for the oldest. The juxtaposition of old and new art illustrates the influence and unbroken active reception of archaeological finds. On the occasion of this exhibition, finds with female connotations from Austrian collections and museums are presented and placed in an international and contemporary art context. Austria's collections are home to the most important archaeological references for contemporary feminist art worldwide, which focus on the female body, its charisma, power and relationship to life.

Exhibition 2025 "From prehistory to the Middle Ages"

From the Stone Age to the early Middle Ages, faithful replicas of residential and farm buildings offer a glimpse into past living environments in Central Europe. Huts made of clay and wood show living and working areas such as the craft of stone cutting, bronze casting or wood turning.

The archaeological outdoor area

The buildings are grouped into settlements from different eras, supplemented by fields and gardens. The first types of grain - emmer and spelt - can be seen, as well as peas, beans and dye plants. Picturesque paths lead visitors through the archaeological outdoor area. During the historical festivals, the open-air grounds are full of life. Exciting activity programs and historical craft courses make it possible to try out history for yourself!
