Kellerberg Großkrut
Cellar-lined roads
Description
The Großkrut cellar hill is a unique gem in the Weinviertel. Let your soul dangle and your thoughts wander and if you are lucky, and there is a cellar owner on site, you may be spontaneously invited for a sip of wine.
But the Kellerberg is more than just beautiful to look at. Every year at the end of August, the traditional and very well-attended Kellerbergfest takes place. Regional delicacies and, of course, all the wines from the large municipality can be sampled here! Once a month, all year round, the Späth winery invites you to an "Open Cellar" - the open cellar days can be found in the calendar of events. Information boards at the foot of this jewel tell the story of winegrowing in Großkrut, and the "old press" gives you an idea of how laborious it must have been to press wine back then. But the Kellerberg is not only "alive" in summer... In winter, when there is snow, it is the most popular tobogganing destination in our municipality, and if the snow conditions allow, the youth of Großkrut build a bar out of snow and invite you to après-ski on the Kellerberg, with night tobogganing on an illuminated slope!
The unmistakable charm of the Weinviertel wine cellar lanes can be experienced most impressively on a guided tour.
Fascinating insights into their history and the former significance of these special places are revealed.
