Kellergasse Rösselberg Poysdorf
Cellar-lined roads
Description
The closed wine cellar lane "Rösselberg" begins almost inconspicuously on the western outskirts of Poysdorf. The romantic cellar buildings nestle together here as a picture-book backdrop - built into the ancient loess layer and covered by wild vegetation. Only a few of the 60 cellars are still used commercially for viticulture or wine storage. Almost all of the other cellars are used for wine tastings with parlors and rustic seating areas, as a vinotheque or for private celebrations.
There is always something going on at the Rösselberg. In addition to the many celebrations in the cellars as well as the events as part of the "Wine Autumn" or the regular "Open Cellar Doors", St. Nicholas also comes every year and distributes sweet greetings to the children. During Advent, 24 cellar windows are beautifully decorated and opened from December 1st to 24th. The cellar owners also celebrate May Day every year by erecting their own maypole.
As there are many vineyards behind the lane, many farmers drive through the steep wine cellar lane. Just before the vineyards, there is a turnaround that is often used as a parking lot during festivals or "open cellar doors". At the top, you have a beautiful panoramic view over the town of Poysdorf and the Poybachtal valley. On a clear day, the Carpathian Mountains complete the panoramic view.
The unmistakable charm of the Weinviertel wine cellar lanes can be experienced most impressively on a guided tour.
This provides fascinating insights into their history and the former significance of these special places.
