Autumnal delights in the Weinviertel

Autumn in wine country is all about enjoyment and a varied programme of events.

In the Weinviertel, autumn is the time of the wine harvest, with the scent of grapes bulging on the vine, countless wine-tasting parties and a landscape bursting with colour.

When the leaves on the trees start to turn and the landscape transforms into a riot of colour, Weinherbst Niederösterreich begins in the rolling hills of the Weinviertel, and the region’s legendary hospitality comes into its own in the cellar lane and wine tasting events, you know that autumn has arrived.

Delighting in the fruits of the earth

At this time of year, it isn’t only the grapes that are harvested, but a lot of other products too – and local produce is used to make delicious dishes, and sold directly at farm gates. Squash, onions and potatoes fill the menus in the Weinviertel’s restaurants. The region’s game also goes into some of the culinary highlights of the season.

Out into colourful nature

The leaves are changing and the colourful landscape tempts us outdoors for autumn walks and hikes. Walking the along the Jakobsweg Weinviertel pilgrim route, part of the Camino de Santiago found in the region, is highly recommended at this time of year since the landscape is so impressive.
