Hiking tour Starting from Pulkau, Town Hall Square
Start / Finish: Pulkau
Start / Finish: Pulkau
Groß Reipersdorf - wide view of the Weinviertel - old quarry - biotope (recommendation: use the Kneipp facility on the way back)
Surrounded by vineyards and orchards, the small town of Pulkau with around 1,500 inhabitants lies at the transition between the Waldviertel and Weinviertel in a Tuscan-like landscape and bears witness to its historical past.
Tip: Picnic in the vineyard
You can enjoy a picnic at a panoramic rest area on all wine trails. The basket is filled with typical regional delicacies, a bottle of peppery, spicy Grüne Veltliner (or a bottle of grape juice) and a bottle of water. Look and listen to nature, take in the vastness and tranquillity, forget everyday life and simply enjoy the moment (bookable for two or more people and +43 (0) 664 3520006 or office@weingut-kellner.at)
Turn right past the pillory, cross the bridge to “Bahnstraße.” Turn right at “Am Berg” and follow the road. Cross the federal highway and pass through Groß-Reipersdorf until you reach the edge of town. Here, turn left and follow the long, straight path. At the end, turn right, slightly uphill, cross the old railroad tracks, and continue to the fork on the right. Follow the path through vineyards and acacia forests. A sweeping view of the Weinviertel—on clear days, even as far as the Schneeberg—rewards your efforts. After a while, you’ll reach some old, half-ruined buildings; here, turn right next to the gate. The old quarry and its natural habitat invite you to take a break. The path leads left to the road. Turn right here, and immediately after the gate, keep left. Continue straight ahead past the old train station. Stay to the right on the paved path until you reach Groß Reipersdorf. From here, take the familiar Herweg trail back to Pulkau. If your feet are hot, you can cool them off at the Groß Reipersdorf Kneipp facility.
