Description
On northern rail from Vienna to Lower Austria - and all the way to the Czech Republic.
Today's Northern Railway, which runs from Vienna's Praterstern to Lower Austria and on to Břeclav in the Czech Republic, is historically interesting: This is because the railroad line was built and operated from as early as the 1830s - at the time as the first steam railroad in the Austrian Empire. Today, the Northern Railway is considered a convenient and fast way to travel from Vienna to Lower Austria as far as the Austrian-Czech border - and also an important part of Pan-European Transport Corridor IV.
The sustainable rail service takes passengers from Vienna through Lower Austria via Deutsch Wagram and Gänserndorf to Bernhardsthal in the district of Gänserndorf. Here, in Lower Austria's Weinviertel region near the Thaya river, which forms the border with the Czech Republic, the line then continues to the Czech Republic.
The Gänserndorf-Marchegg line is run as a branch line to connect with the Marchegg Eastern Railway.
