The “In the Footsteps of the Cellar Cat” loop trail winds through the Sitzendorf wine cellar lane in Hollabrunn and the adjacent natural area. At a total of 25 stations, this themed trail provides interesting facts about the origins, development, and significance of the wine cellar lane, as well as its diverse uses. The stations offer insights into the historical use of the cellars for viticulture and, at the same time, illustrate their transformation from facilities originally used for agricultural purposes into places for private and social gatherings in an urban setting. Some of the interactive stations are located in the cellars along the wine cellar lane. Access to these stations is granted via a chip card, which is issued upon check-in at the Stadthotel Hollabrunn in exchange for a €5 deposit.
The Weinviertel Cellar Cat serves as a recurring motif, accompanying visitors along the loop trail. Created by Hollabrunn artist Günter Stockinger, this figure draws on an ancient symbolic figure of viticulture and thematically links the individual stations. The loop trail thus creates a connection between wine culture, history, the natural environment, and social life, bringing the unique features of the Sitzendorf wine cellar lane to life in a vivid way.
The loop trail begins at the first stop at the Stadthotel Hollabrunn. Information about the route is available there. In addition, a chip card granting access to the indoor stops is issued in exchange for a deposit. At the second stop, the “Kellerkatze” (cellar cat) takes center stage. It serves as a recurring theme throughout the rest of the themed trail. The following stations provide interesting facts about the historical significance and use of the wine cellar lanes, the underground cellar tunnels, and the natural and plant life surrounding the wine cellar lane. In addition, the stations offer insights into various aspects of winegrowing and wine cellar lane culture. Interactive stations, which engage the senses of smell and taste, among others, add variety to the experience. Several lookouts and rest areas along the route offer opportunities to linger. The experience is complemented by refreshment stations offering water and other beverages.
