A cross-border loop route connecting Laa an der Thaya with the Czech border town of Mikulov.
This cross-border tour takes you to our neighboring country - the Czech Republic. Cycle through a peaceful, almost untouched landscape, on well-maintained paths without any significant gradients, but with unique views of the surroundings of the Laa Plain.
The cross-border “Hallo Nachbar” bike route begins in Laa an der Thaya. From here, the route immediately crosses the international border into the Czech Republic. After a short ride, you’ll soon reach Hevlín (Höflein). The late-Baroque Church of the Assumption is definitely worth a visit.
You’ll then cycle along a longer stretch through almost untouched countryside before finally reaching Nový Pěrov (Neu-Prerau). Here, you have two options: If you’d like, you can shorten the bike tour and take a direct route to Wildendürnbach. Or you can cycle on the Czech side via Březi (Bratelsbrunn) to Mikulov (Nikolsburg). Here, it’s worth taking a detour to the Baroque castle or hiking up the Holy Mountain. The synagogue and the Jewish cemetery are also worth seeing. You’ll then return to Austria; the route leads to Pottenhofen and then to Wildendürnbach. Here in the “village without chimneys,” the idyllically situated“Galgenberg” wine cellar complex awaits you. Spread across three levels, you’ll have the opportunity to marvel at around 185 wine cellars. The route then takes you through the Laa Plain via Neudorf bei Staatz back to the starting point in Laa an der Thaya. After this long tour, this is a great place to wind down the day. A visit to the “Therme der Sinne” spa will help you relax and is sure to be the perfect finale!
The route starts near the "Therme Laa" hotel, where parking is also available. Both regular bicycles and e-bikes can be rented at the "Therme Laa" hotel.
By car, Laa/Thaya can be reached directly via Federal Highway “B6” from Vienna or “B46” from Mistelbach.
Laa/Thaya can be reached by taking the Schnellbahn from Vienna (via Wolkersdorf and Mistelbach). There is also a bus service from Mistelbach's main square to Laa's town square.
You can take a shortcut near Nový Přerov by turning right toward Austria or the town of Wildendürnbach.
You'll rejoin the route before reaching Galgenberg.
