    Description

The Laaer Ostbahn runs as an electrified main line from Vienna through the Lower Austrian Weinviertel region to the Czech border. It is partly double-tracked and measures 92.5 kilometers in total. The line, planned by the Imperial-Royal Privileged Austro-Hungarian State Railway Company, was opened in November 1870 and is therefore still a reminder of the railroad main line of the Imperial-Royal era from Vienna to the northern crown lands. Vienna to the northern crown lands. It originally ran from Vienna via Mistelbach and Laa an der Thaya as well as Grußbach in Moravia to Brno. After the end of the Second World War, the line was interrupted at the national border. The resulting gap of two kilometers between Laa and the Hevlin-Hrušovany branch line was never closed.

In summer 2019, part of the Laaer Ostbahn underwent extensive renovation work: Specifically, around17 kilometers of new track were laid in the Wolkersdorf - Laa section and culverts and bridges were revitalized.
