Description

The South Moravian Monument in Unterretzbach, which was erected in 1980 according to the designs and under the supervision of Hans Krappl, is an impressive testimony to history. It was built by the expelled German South Moravians from the Znojmo region and serves as a memorial to the expulsion. It commemorates the inhumane expulsion of millions of people worldwide and in particular the expelled German South Moravians from the Znojmo district. The inscription on the memorial 'Heimatrecht ist Menschenrecht!' underlines this message. The central stone figure, a mother in everyday South Moravian costume, protectively embracing children, is a limestone sculpture by Hans Krappl. The bronze plaques on the viewing platforms name the former 94 local communities of the Znojmo district and point in the direction of the respective location in the South Moravian region. This memorial is an impressive place that reminds visitors of historical events and encourages reflection.
