Salzstandorte Zwingendorf: Glaubersalzsteppe und Saliterweide

Interactive station, Outdoor adventure

Description

In the cadastral area of Zwingendorf there are two nature reserves, "Glaubersalzsteppe mit Naturschutzlehrpfad" and "Saliterweide", with rare plants (halophytes) and small animals on saline soils that are unique to Lower Austria or even Austria as a whole. The "Meerstrandmilchkraut" (Glaux maritima) is found nowhere else as extensively as here in the entire Central European continental area.

A nature trail through the "Glauber's salt steppe" explains the importance of this nature reserve on multilingual display boards - interactively for children.

In the Zwingendorf village museum in the old grist mill (visit at any time by appointment with the museum director - tel. 02527/563, e-mail: adhai@aon.at), the flora and fauna of the Zwingendorf nature reserves are also documented in several languages in the nature conservation showroom.

The nature trail is freely accessible at all times - the visit to the village museum is free of charge.
