Fantastic labyrinth adventure in Austria's largest historic wine cellar: the Retzer Erlebniskeller (adventure cellar) is home to numerous myths and stories in its 20 kilometer long and 20 to 30 meter deep tunnels, tubes and rooms. The people of Retz have been storing their precious wine treasures in the layers of pure sea sand since 1279. Some of the cellars extend over three storeys.
Temperatures in the Retzer Erlebniskeller remain constant at 10 to 12 degrees Celsius all year round. Warm clothing is therefore recommended for exploring the cellar vaults.
The historic wine labyrinth can be discovered on an impressive tour with professionally trained cultural mediators. In just over 1.5 hours, guests walk through the centuries-old building and learn all kinds of interesting facts about the long tradition of the famous cellar. The journey through the tunnels also reveals many a secret from the city and region.
The tour includes a short explanation of the main square and a wine tasting (1/16 liter). As a historic wine cellar, the Retzer Erlebniskeller is not barrier-free due to the structural conditions. Naturally, there are steps to negotiate at a moderate walking pace during the cellar tour and a total of around 1.5 kilometers of walking distance.
Foreign languages: The guided tours are conducted in German. Audio guides are available free of charge for individual guests who speak English or Czech. Special tours can be booked in English and Czech.

Bus parking is available in Wallstraße, at the train station or in Landesbahnstraße. You can get on and off at the bus stop on the main square.
Tip: The mystical excursion experience also includes the historic panoramic view of Retz's main square. It is one of the largest and most beautiful market squares in the whole country and can also be crossed underground. Finally, a good glass of wine awaits all adult experience guests at the Hotel Althof.
