Pfarrkirche St. Nikolaus
Church
Description
The parish church of St. Nikolaus, a late Baroque hall building, is located on an elevated site in the north of the village. The church is particularly impressive due to its large, uniformly designed interior. The furnishings of the church are baroque-classical, dating from around 1780 or the beginning of the 19th century. The parish church is "ostentatious", i.e. the altar of the church is located to the east, an indication that it is a very old church. The church building is 43 meters long, 22 meters wide and offers space for around 300 visitors. The tower of the parish church, which is around 40 meters high, has an interesting construction history and has been made higher at least twice, which suggests that it was built on previous churches. There are six bells in the tower, including two very old bells that survived the two world wars: a bell from 1649 and a plague bell from 1682. The baroque high altar structure is adorned with a large oil painting by Martin Johann Schmidt, known as the "Kremser Schmidt", from 1781 with the image of the church's patron saint, St. Nicholas. The organ was built by master organ builder Josef Silberbauer from Znojmo in 1787.
