Hausberganlage Stronegg
Historical sites, Scenic lookout
Description
The Hausberg in Stronegg rises on a total area of approx. 2.85 ha, making it one of the largest and most important complexes of its kind in Lower Austria. Although the origins of such residential and fortification complexes date back to the 3rd century, this earthwork probably dates from the 9th to 10th century. Two striking main structures rise out of a ring with ramparts and ditches, the larger of which has an oval ground plan and a base length of approx. 80 meters. At a height of 12 meters there is a plateau, the surface of which has two depressions measuring 45/23 meters. According to tradition, there was a well here; the second pit was probably excavated in 1888. The second, smaller pit with a base length of 53 m in the form of a truncated pyramid is located to the northwest of the first main work. Access to the Hausberg: Through the village of Stronegg, straight ahead at the chapel and at house no. 32 there is a signpost.
