Erdäpfelmuseum Prinzendorf
Museum
Description
Pastor Johann Eberhard Jungbluth (1722-1795) is regarded as the promoter of potato cultivation in the Weinviertel. He brought the potato from his home country of Luxembourg to Prinzendorf in 1761. In 1834, his parishioners erected a monument to him at the back of the parish church in gratitude. The agricultural museum was founded in 1973 on the initiative of the Reverend Franz Engel. In the former rectory there is an exhibition on Pastor Jungbluth and his time with many original documents. You can also learn lots of interesting facts about the potato. The 250-year-old smokehouse, pantry and laundry room are also well worth a visit. Numerous agricultural tools and machines are on display in 2 old barns with attached sheds and a large open-air area. Please call the municipality of Hauskirchen (02533/8520) or Mr. Huber (0699/12039700) before visiting.
