Poysdorf

A wine town that is the Weinviertel’s sparkling wine capital.

The town of Poysdorf, in the district of Mistelbach, lies in the northern reaches of the Weinviertel on Brünner Strasse, surrounded by hills. Just 10km from the Czech border, here visitors can enjoy specialities from both sides of the border.

The wine town and Sekt sparkling wine centre of Poysdorf is all about viniculture – picturesque cellar lanes, pressing houses, winemakers and 1,400 hectares of vineyards are bound to set wine lovers’ pulses racing.

Where wine is a way of life

Poysdorf is simply synonymous with wine – and here visitors can find out more about wine in all its many forms. From walks through the vineyards to tours of the lanes lined with wine cellars. In these picturesque streets – the most prominent of which are Radyweg and Poysdorfer Gstetten – one pressing house after the other awaits discovery. The annual Poysdorfer Winzerfest winemakers’ festival is especially popular and offers a chance to celebrate the grape harvest in all its glory.

WEIN + TRAUBEN Welt exhibition

In 2013, at the chosen location for the Lower Austria State Exhibition, a very special attraction was created – the WEIN + TRAUBEN Welt exhibition. Visitors are able to learn all they ever wanted to know about vines, grapes and wine. Interactive exhibits make the exhibition fun for all the family.

Out and about with a tractor

One popular way to explore Poysdorf is by tractor. This special guided tour on a traditional tractor trailer winds its way through the town, passing period buildings and the church of Maria Bründl, a pilgrimage destination, and navigating the cellar lanes. Visitors are sure to pick up a few insider tips along the way, before enjoying a glass of Weinviertel DAC wine to finish off the tour in fitting style.
