If you leave Hohenruppersdorf via the ascending village exit in a south-easterly direction, you will drive through the "Viehtrift" wine cellar lane over a length of almost 400 meters. Although the street has been called "Obere Hauptstraße" for some years now, it is still colloquially referred to as such in the area of the wine cellar lane.
No exact information can be given about the age of the cellars. The first cellar excavations for wine storage in Hohenruppersdorf probably date back to the 16th century. The press houses, typical of the Weinviertel, are romantic and dreamy functional buildings that captivate with their simplicity and unpretentiousness. The fact that three tree presses are still used in the Viehtrift today is particularly noteworthy. The Hohenruppersdorfer Viehtrift offers interesting insights into times long past and is also a special experience for wine connoisseurs of today, both "above" and "below" the ground!
