Weingut Hofbauer-Schmidt
Description
The Hofbauer-Schmidt winery in the "border triangle" of Kamp Valley ("Kamptal", Wagram and Weinviertel) stands for wines full of character and individuality. Situated in Hohenwarth, it is a family business where the passion for wine has been lived for eight generations. Decisions in the vineyard and cellar are made in-house to ensure that the wines meet the highest quality standards. Sustainable viticulture through careful and sensitive treatment of nature is of central importance here. The vines benefit from the high altitude of 365 meters, which protects them from frost and allows them to ripen late. The winery has been SUSTAINABLE AUSTRIA certified since 2019. Petra and Leopold have shaped the winery over the past 30 years, expanded the vineyard area and developed a sophisticated, exciting wine style. Since 2016, their son Johannes Hofbauer-Schmidt has brought a breath of fresh air to the business. The collaboration between the generations is a great advantage, as it offers a mix of many years of experience and young ideas. The two flagship varieties Grüne Veltliner and Roter Veltliner thrive particularly well on the chalky, gravelly loess soils of Hohenwarth. In 2017, the winery won the Austrian Wine Championships with the international grape variety Sauvignon Blanc. In 2018, the family was honored as a wein.pur.PIONEER for their special achievements and tireless commitment to local wine. Johannes Hofbauer-Schmidt was also named VINEUS Newcomer Winemaker of the Year, making him one of the most successful young winemakers in Austria.
