Sierndorf

Description

The market town of Sierndorf consists of 9 cadastral municipalities and has an area of 55.07 km². 4340 inhabitants live in the 9 villages.

The cadastral municipality of SIERNDORF, the main town of the market town of Sierndorf, is conveniently located on the S3 and Nordwestbahn, making Vienna easily accessible. The excellent transport connections, the location in the countryside and the good infrastructure (kindergarten, elementary school, afternoon care for primary school children, infant care, doctor, dentist, vet, grocery store, butcher, baker, hairdresser, drugstore, bank, inn, wine tavern, restaurant, .....) make Sierndorf a community worth living in close proximity to Vienna.

Sierndorf was the village of a "Sirni", which was first mentioned in a document in 1282.

The cadastral municipality of HÖBERSDORF is an Angerdorf, which was first mentioned in a document in 1327. Höbersdorf forms a separate parish with Untermallebarn. The parish church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist.

The cadastral parish of OBERHAUTZENTAL is a mixture of Graben and Angerdorf. Oberhautzental belongs to the settlement wave of the 11th century and was first mentioned around 1190. The pilgrimage church is dedicated to the "Mother of God".

The cadastral parish of OBERMALLEBARN was first mentioned around 1130. The baroque pilgrimage church and the pilgrimage chapel outside the village, dedicated to the "Sorrowful Mother of God", characterize the townscape.

The cadastral parish of OBEROLBERNDORF is an Angerdorf. The village green in Oberolberndorf has the shape of a triangle and used to be bordered by two channels. The two channels met in the lower part of the village and here the village has the shape of a longitudinal ridge. The Anger was not originally built on. It was used by the entire village community (common land). Side streets form the end of the Anger. The blocks are arranged along the side streets. The house plots have a rectangular shape. The farmsteads along the peripheral road have a uniform building line. On January 31, 1945, 21 people were killed in the American bombing raid on the Senninger barracks, 8 houses were destroyed and other major damage was caused.

The cadastral parish of SENNING is a parish in its own right. Senning was first mentioned in documents in 1298. The foundation of the church dates back to the 14th century. The church was originally a fortified church. Today, the church and the wall surrounding the cemetery are reminders of the old church fortifications.

The cadastral parish of UNTERHAUTZENTAL belongs to the parish of Oberhautzental. An Early Bronze Age burial ground was discovered in Unterhautzental around 20 years ago. During excavations, skeletons as well as grave goods such as pots and bowls etc. were found. Weapons and tools from the Bronze Age also came to light. With its 40 graves, this is the largest cemetery of its kind in Lower Austria.

The cadastral parish of UNTERMALLEBARN belongs to the parish of Höbersdorf. The chapel is dedicated to St. Leonhard. A baroque Trinity Column is located in Untermallebarn in the immediate vicinity of the chapel.

The cadastral parish of UNTERPARSCHENBRUNN was rebuilt as a complete village slightly to the west after it was completely destroyed around 1500 after a dam burst. Until recently, the centuries-old lime trees on a hill to the east of the village were a beautiful natural monument.
