The "Vetliner Wine Cycle Route", starting in the "City of Wine", leads through the northern Weinviertel. The challenging day tour offers numerous views of the cultural and natural landscape - from views of the nearby Czech Republic from the Galgenberg near Wildendürnbach to the castle ruins near Staatz, which can be seen from afar. Numerous rest stops along the way invite you to linger.
- Equipment Bring enough to drink, the inns in the Weinviertel are not open every day.
- Route description The "Wine route with views – Veltliner" starts in Poysdorf. In the "City of Wine" you can visit the Vino Versum Poysdorf with its numerous leisure tips as well as the wine cellar alleys of the wine town. From here you cycle through the hilly landscape, accompanied by vineyards, via Kleinhadersdorf, Altruppersdorf and Waltersdorf near Staatz onwards to Staatz. Already from afar the Staatz castle ruin sitting on a rock cone can be seen. The beautiful church square invites you to a first rest. Via Wultendorf, with the Garden of the Senses, you reach Kottingneusiedl and further on to Neudorf near Staatz. (For the sporty, a detour to Laa an der Thaya before Kottingneusiedl is worthwhile to relax a bit in the “Therme der Sinne”!)Through the Laa plain the route continues to Wildendürnbach, the "village without a chimney." Here you will find the idyllic cellar hill “Galgenberg.” On three levels you have the opportunity to admire around 185 wine cellars and to look far into the country from the “Bell Tower.” Here the "Kamp-Thaya-March cycle route" also joins the tour. Via Pottenhofen and Ottenthal you cycle gently uphill to Falkenstein. Proud and mighty the romantic castle ruin of the same name towers above the wine village. A wine teaching path and one of the longest and most beautiful wine cellar alleys in Lower Austria invite you to linger. After the relaxing downhill ride to Poysbrunn, it goes uphill to the junction to Herrnbaumgarten. If there is still time, it is worth enjoying the atmosphere of the wine cellar alleys and the "landscape installations" here. Finally, it goes mostly downhill through vineyards back to the starting point in Poysdorf.
- Parking The starting point of the route is located in the center at the intersection Oberer Markt/Brünnerstraße. There is a short-term parking zone directly in the center. Slightly outside you can park (e.g. along the street "Oberer Markt" up to the end of the short-term parking zone or in Kolpingstraße (approx. 300m from the starting point).
- Getting there Poysdorf is accessible by car via the federal road "B7".
- Public transport Coming from Vienna, you first have to take a bus or train to Mistelbach. From Mistelbach/Main Square there is a bus connection to Poysdorf. From Wolkersdorf there is also a bus connection to Poysdorf, but it has a long travel time.
- Editor’s tip When you return to the starting point, treat yourself to a glass of Weinviertel DAC at one of the numerous Heurigen in Poysdorf.
