Weinradroute Zweigelt

The route begins in Wolkersdorf in the Weinviertel, in front of Wolkersdorf Castle, a stately four-towered fortress. This is also where the OMV Energy Bike Route begins. From here, you’ll cycle through Ulrichskirchen to Hautzendorf. At this point, you have the option to shorten the tour via Wolfpassing, Kollnbrunn, and Bad Pirawarth. (Tip: In Wolfpassing, you can visit a show garden with rustic charm—the Original Weinviertler Bauerngarten!)

The regular route continues on to Niederkreuzstetten. Here, inthe “Guilds’ Saints’ Cellar,” you can immerse yourself in a unique setting, as the cellar is adorned with artistically carved statues of saints representing specific guilds. Via Gaweinstal and Obersulz, you’ll finally reach Niedersulz, where a special highlight awaits you: In the Museumsdorf, Lower Austria’s largest open-air museum, you can explore relocated historic buildings spread across an area of over 20 hectares and admire numerous gardens where rare plants and heirloom fruit varieties thrive.

You’ll then continue cycling via Martinsdorf to Hohenruppersdorf. Here, the wine cellar lane and the Erlebnis-Weingartl invite you to linger. The route then continues via Bad Pirawarth to Groß-Schweinbarth, where you’ll find the special exhibition “The Amber Road in the Weinviertel” at the Museum Niederösterreich for Folk Culture. You should also check out the Lower Austria Farming Museum. Afterward, cycle to Auersthal, where the “Wunderberg” wine cellar lane awaits you with around 100 wine cellars and press houses. Passing picturesque vineyards, the route takes you back to the starting point in Wolkersdorf im Weinviertel.

One more tip: The shortcut between Hautzendorf and Bad Pirawarth is signposted in both directions, which means you can also choose to start the tour in Niederkreuzstetten.

Parking is available right next to Wolkersdorf Castle.

Wolkersdorf can be reached by car directly via the A5 highway. (Take the Wolkersdorf Süd or Wolkersdorf Nord exit.)

Coming from Vienna, Mistelbach, or Laa/Thaya, Wolkersdorf is accessible by the Schnellbahn (S2).
Trains depart from Vienna Praterstern every 10 to 20 minutes.
The starting point of the route is about 500 meters from the train station. However, the route passes right by the station. Bikes can also be rented there.
