The loop trail leads from Jedenspeigen Castle over the Kellerberg hill in Sierndorf, out into the floodplain landscape—featuring a particularly idyllic oxbow lake known as the “Hufeisen”—and back to the starting point.

A visit to Jedenspeigen Castle features a well-curated exhibition commemorating the fateful battle of 1278 between King Ottokar II of Bohemia and Rudolf I of Habsburg.

Passing by the idyllic, winding wine cellar lanes of Jedenspeigen, the trail continues to the Goldberg. From the hilltop, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the March floodplains, the villages of Slovakia, and all the way to the Little Carpathians.

On the charming Kellerberg hill in Sierndorf, the ancient wine press houses and cellars tell the story of centuries of winemaking tradition and invite you to stop for a break. Or perhaps you’d like to take a guided tour of the cellar lanes (please register in advance). Refreshed, you’ll continue into the village, passing the idyllically situated church. Both the local history museum and the floodplain landscape are well worth a visit.

Near the dam, we recommend a stroll around the so-called “Hufeisen” (Horseshoe), a particularly idyllic oxbow lake of the March River and a paradise for waterfowl, frogs, and fish.

The trail continues along the dam, where you’ll be tempted time and again to take a detour down to the March River. The trail leads back to Jedenspeigen through vast fields.

Parking is available at the parking lot near Jedenspeigen Castle or in the town center near the municipal office.

Coming from Vienna, take the B8 federal highway toward Gänserndorf. Drive to Angern/March (just before the Slovakian border) and turn onto the B49 there, which will take you directly to Jedenspeig.

You can reach Jedenspeigen by train from Vienna. The trip takes about 45 minutes. Take the train toward Breclav.
