About 25 meters past the border building, a marked trail branches off to the left, leading through the forest to the Thaya River. From here, you have a view across the river weir toward Hardegg. The natural vegetation in this section remained virtually untouched during the era of the “Iron Curtain.” A few concrete bunkers still bear witness to the former fortifications. At a ditch, the trail turns right and leads through the forest onto the plateau until it reaches a paved road.

After the Keply intersection, just before Čížov, a red trail marker leads to the right through the forest until you reach Lukov after 5 km. Lukov, a village with noteworthy rural architecture, a late-Baroque church, and a 16th-century pillory, invites you to linger. There is a place to stop for refreshments here for thirsty and hungry hikers. Then continue following the red trail marker to Příčky (2 km), from where a green trail marker leads to the Neuhäusel (Nový Hrádek) ruins.

Built in the 14th century as a border fortification on the Moravian side, it has had an eventful history and numerous owners. The ruins are open to visitors from May through September. From the highest point of the ruins, you can enjoy an indescribably beautiful view of the Thaya Valley. From here, you can see the Thaya River three times, and in the summer, you can spot black storks.

The return trip to Hardegg follows the same route as the way there.
