This tour takes you past meadows and fields, through idyllic vineyards. Enjoy the charm of the picturesque wine cellar lanes and sample the wonderful wines. But the tour also has a very special “natural gem” to offer—discover the unique salt steppes near Zwingendorf, a habitat for numerous rare plants (halophytes) and small animals on salt-rich soils.
The “Naturjuwelenradweg” begins in Laa an der Thaya and initially winds through the town. You’ll then cycle along a longer stretch through vast fields, passing through Hanfthal, by the Geiselbrechthof, and past Stronsdorf, before reaching Großharras. Here, you have the option to shorten the loop by taking the route via Zwingendorf, past the impressive salt biotopes—which are protected nature reserves—and along the Kamp-Thaya-March Bike Route. (You can also ride just as far as Zwingendorf to make sure you don’t miss this “natural gem,” and then continue on the “long loop.”)
Normally, the tour continues via Diepolz to Mailberg, a special highlight of this route. Here, four picturesque wine cellar lanes await you, where the well-maintained wine press houses and cellars house the winemakers’ varietal wines and invite you to taste them. One of these wine cellar lanes is even a designated historic landmark. So it’s definitely worth exploring this beautiful setting. The castle of the Order of Malta is also worth a detour.
Afterward, you’ll cycle through the idyllic vineyards of Mailberg, continuing via Obritz to Seefeld. Here, too, you’ll have the opportunity to wander through a wine cellar lane. A detour to the Euregio Vinothek, where you can find not only typical Weinviertel wines but also other small delicacies to take home, is definitely worth it. Following the Kamp-Thaya-March Bike Trail, the route takes you via Wulzeshofen back to Laa/Thaya.

The route starts near the "Therme Laa" hotel, where parking is also available. Both regular bicycles and e-bikes can be rented at the "Therme Laa" hotel.
By car, Laa/Thaya can be reached directly via Federal Highway “B6” from Vienna or “B46” from Mistelbach.
Laa/Thaya can be reached by taking the Schnellbahn from Vienna (via Wolkersdorf and Mistelbach). There is also a bus service from Mistelbach's main square to Laa's town square.
