Marchfeldkanal cycle route

The Marchfeld Canal Bike Route takes you from the city of Vienna, through Austria’s “vegetable garden”—the Marchfeld—to impressive castles. The entire route runs idyllically along the Marchfeld Canal and the Russbach. The destination is Schloss Hof. Partner businesses in the towns of the Marchfeld invite you to enjoy refreshments, meals, and overnight stays. Your cycling trip can also be easily combined with a train ride or a boat trip on the Danube. The route along the canal allows for peaceful and relaxed cycling away from motorized traffic and without any major inclines.

Many interesting topics—such as the Marchfeld Canal as a nature-friendly structure, Napoleon’s history in the Marchfeld, nature, art, and, of course, the magnificent Marchfeld castles—can be explored along the bike path and in the surrounding area. Culinary delights and farm-fresh Marchfeld products await you at the local Marchfeld businesses.

Note: Please be especially careful in the “Marchfeld Canal” section within Vienna’s city limits up to the border with Gerasdorf due to the high volume of recreational traffic (cyclists, pedestrians, runners, etc.)!
