Hiking tour Starting from Pulkau, Town Hall Square
Start / Finish: Pulkau
Start / Finish: Pulkau
Lookout point with a beautiful view - Leodagger - detour to the Kalenderstein - vicarage
Surrounded by vineyards and orchards, the small town of Pulkau with around 1,500 inhabitants lies at the transition between the Waldviertel and Weinviertel in a Tuscan-like landscape and bears witness to its historical past.
Tip: Picnic in the vineyard
You can enjoy a picnic at a panoramic rest area on all wine trails. The basket is filled with typical regional delicacies, a bottle of peppery, spicy Grüne Veltliner (or a bottle of grape juice) and a bottle of water. Look and listen to nature, take in the vastness and tranquillity, forget everyday life and simply enjoy the moment (bookable for two or more people and +43 (0) 664 3520006 or office@weingut-kellner.at)
The path leads to the right toward Kirchengasse, past the Blutkirche to the former parish school (1397); from here, take the slightly uphill sidewalk. Once at the top, the trail turns left, crosses the street, and—after the town sign—turns slightly left into the sunken path. At the end of the path, turn left and then right at the hairpin turn. At the end of the green trail, turn right and follow the old road. Just before it ends, turn left uphill to the lookout point. Continue to the state highway, cross it to the right, and walk a short distance through the forest. Then turn right and right again, heading downhill with a great view toward Leodagger. Cross the road slightly to the left (a detour to the Kalenderstein is recommended), go through the wine cellar lane, and a short while later turn right. Continue to the road, keep left here, and after a short distance, turn right onto the path along the vineyards. Go straight ahead to the wayside shrine and from there, follow the path to the right. Before reaching the first houses in Pulkau, the trail leads up to the vineyards. Walk along them almost all the way to St. Michael’s Church; here, turn left downhill and pass through the Europahaus—the parish rectory—back to the starting point.
