The second day’s stage of the Weinviertel Way of St. James begins in Poysdorf, Austria’s wine and sparkling wine capital. The trail takes you past the Passion Chapel and follows the course of the Poybach stream. In the middle of a small forest, you’ll reach the Maria Bründl Pilgrimage Church. The trail continues through the idyllic Bründlauen meadows to Kleinhadersdorf. Through the colorful “Schnellern” wine cellar lane, the trail leads you to the Mistelbach Forest. Surrounded by deciduous and coniferous trees, you’ll hike through the mixed forest and eventually reach the municipal area of Mistelbach, the district capital. The Maria Rast Pilgrimage Church offers a place to rest, as does the town center of Mistelbach that follows. After passing through the town of Mistelbach, the Weinviertel Way of St. James leads you to Hüttendorf. On a clear day, you can already see the Buschberg here—at 491 m, the highest peak in the Weinviertel. The trail takes you through the village and leads into the Leiser Forest. Here, on the rolling foothills of the Leiser Berge Nature Park, lies the municipality of Ladendorf, south of the Way of St. James. In the Garmanns area, take the turnoff toward Asparn an der Zaya. There, a short distance off the actual Weinviertel Way of St. James, you’ll find excellent lodging options.
