Description
28 villages in the small region of the southern Weinviertel are included in the 135-kilometre route, which leads through three deaneries of the Archdiocese of Vienna and two political districts. It is quite easy for classic pedestrians to complete in a week's vacation and presents the beautiful southern Weinviertel. The recommended circular route starts in Bad Pirawarth, but you can hop on and off at any of the 28 towns. Marvel at the vastness of Lower Austria's Marchfeld region, which meets the gently undulating and diversely cultivated landscape of the Weinviertel with its unique wine cellar lanes and Stadelwege. Hiking through the varied landscape, lively birdsong in the great outdoors ... refreshes body and soul. Weinviertel delicacies and an excellent drop of fine wine add to the experience.
Accompanied on the way:
The main route is signposted in one direction (partly supplemented by stickers). The connecting routes for smaller rounds are marked with stickers on both sides. Please note: In general, signs or markings may be missing or twisted despite maintenance. In addition to the map material in the route brochure, we offer detailed route descriptions and GPX files for mobile companions. On site, the church spires also help you to find your way. If you really lose your way, you only need to locate your current position on your cell phone to be able to navigate to your next destination. Our locations are usually only a few kilometers apart, so you should quickly find your way back to the nearest church and thus back on track.
Audio guide: You can download the Hearonymus app and all audio files free of charge via your cell phone. If you wish, a story can be created in your head: Young Clare enthusiastically explains the special features of the places in our region along the way and talks about our 'Weinviertel Sea' - and St. Francis talks about his life and compares his conversion experience with that of St. Paul. He talks about his practical experience of faith, about his belief in the one, loving God, whom all three major world religions worship. In addition, he gives spiritual impulses, guides us to healing meditations and invites us to reflect. - Klara, on the other hand, lets us experience the traditional '7 Rusten pilgrimage', for example.

- Editor’s tip Some walk paths for health or sports reasons or to enjoy nature. Others seek community, and still others spiritual retreat and peace to come to terms with themselves and to converse with God. On the Franziskusweg in the Weinviertel, everything is possible. (Auxiliary Bishop Stephan Turnovszky)The initiator: The path is NOT the destination. That means, don’t walk the path just to tick it off a list - you would miss out a lot! My recommendation: immerse yourself in it. Take your time! Walk consciously and with all your senses. Pay attention to the many impressions you will encounter. Take time to let them work and resonate. You will see how good that feels.Tips:Nature trail HohenruppersdorfKellergassen circular routeBible path Ebenthal-Spannberg-Velm GötzendorfNumerous excursion tips as well as accommodation or refreshment options can be found at www.weinviertel.at.
