This section takes you from the Waldviertel into the neighboring Czech Republic.
Please don't forget your passport!
From Litschau, the route leads through Schandachen, Leopoldsdorf, and Parten bei Reingers to the Czech Republic. For foodies, there’s no better “potato region” than the northern Waldviertel. So be sure to enjoy the regional cuisine at a down-to-earth tavern! Tip! The rustic top tavern—Gasthaus Perzy in Rottal!
In the Czech Republic, the bike route first takes you through the “Bohemian Canada” region. “Bohemian Canada”—this is the name given to the Prirodni park Ceska Kanada nature reserve northwest of Slavonice due to its sparse population, harsh climate, and endless forests dotted with ponds and “seas of stones.” The nature park is also home to the Landstejn Castle ruins, a well-preserved Romanesque castle ruin that’s well worth seeing. It’s located at the tri-border area of Bohemia, Moravia, and Austria. After a trip through unspoiled nature, you’ll return to the town of Slavonice. The beautiful Renaissance houses in Slavonice’s Old Town look like the finest lace carved from precious stone. This picturesque town is one of the most beautiful in the country!
