Schloss Wolkersdorf

Castle, Historical sites

Description

Today's castle was built in the 13th century as a representative four-tower fort with flat humpback ashlars. It stood on an island of a dammed arm of the Russbach and was surrounded by a moat.

The former moated castle has been owned by the municipality of Wolkersdorf since 1969. In addition to the Wolkersdorf Regional Music School, it also houses the studio of the amber and scrap artist Otto Potsch. Cultural initiatives such as forumschlosswolkersdorf and the FLUSS photography initiative regularly organize exhibitions, concerts and film evenings here (see Excursion destinations "forum Schloss Wolkersdorf"). In the second half of August, the summer cultural program "genuss.kultur.begegnung" takes place in front of the castle. Here you can enjoy cabaret, music events or summer cinema in a cozy atmosphere. (Please see our calendar of events for dates)

On a guided tour of the castle, you will learn amusing, curious and interesting facts about centuries of castle history, about "real" Wolkersdorf residents and Habsburg emperors. The dates of the guided tours can be found on the homepage of the municipality of Wolkersdorf.

Regional wines, beer specialties and regional and international delicacies await you in the cosy castle tavern.
