Description

Where a Gothic castle once proudly stood in ancient times, Wilfersdorf Castle has been in the uninterrupted possession of the princely Liechtenstein family since the year 1440. Since then, the historic stately building has undergone major renovations. In the 19th century, it briefly served as a Prussian cholera hospital. Today, the fully renovated castle invites visitors to explore, visit the museum, and enjoy the castle wine tavern and vinotheque.

In the northern side wing of the castle, an exciting local history collection is on display: exhibited are 10-million-year-old bones of elephants and rhinoceroses, as well as other finds dating back to the Neolithic period. In addition, agricultural tools, historic furnishings, and church tower clockworks from the 18th and early 20th centuries are presented.

The first floor of the main wing is dedicated to the history of the owners: a multimedia permanent exhibition guides visitors through the eventful history of the Liechtenstein family. Valuable exhibits testify to the economic and cultural development of the princely family originating from the Weinviertel region.

The weekend wine tavern in the centuries-old vaulted cellars of Wilfersdorf Castle is operated in rotation by several local winemaking families. The adjoining vinotheque offers a selection of wines from local wine producers and the Princely Cellars of Liechtenstein. Thanks to the spacious children's playground in the former castle moat, young visitors are guaranteed to have fun as well.

A guided tour lasts about 90 minutes and is available for groups of 10 or more.

However, the castle can also be visited without a guided tour.
