Keltenturm am Sandberg

Lookout tower

Description

The Celtic tower on the Sandberg in Roseldorf is an impressive lookout tower that offers a breathtaking view over the Schmidatal, the Retzer Land and the Pulkautal. Every Saturday, refreshments in the form of grape juice, wine and water are offered by the region's Celtic winegrowers. The Celtic settlement on the Sandberg between Roseldorf and Platt is the largest Celtic open-air settlement in Austria and one of the largest in Central Europe. Excavations have uncovered grape seeds that prove a wine-growing tradition on the Sandberg dating back thousands of years. The Celts appreciated the special location of this wine region as early as 500 BC. Six motivated winegrowers have joined forces to revive the Celtic past in their own way. Each wine farm puts a bottle of Grüne Veltliner from its Sandberg wine in a special box. The design of the Celtic warriors and the labels are the result of many creative hours.
