When the Ravelsbach parish church was rebuilt in 1721-1726 under the direction of Jakob Prandtauer, the cemetery, which was originally located around the church, was moved to the southern edge of the village. Many of the late Baroque gravestones were moved to the new location and integrated into the new cemetery wall: Today, they punctuate the stonework with artistic evidence of times gone by.

These crosses are artistically crafted from sandstone: Sandstone has always been a popular material in the art of stonemasonry. Its soft structure enables artistic shapes and reliefs - ideal for grave crosses and religious sculptures that blend in well with historical surroundings.

Embedded as contemporary witnesses, they lend the old cemetery wall an impressive atmosphere - as a silent dialog between history, memory and architecture. A cultural trail reminds visitors of the special features of today's cemetery.
