The lovingly restored Hiata hut is a charming symbol of regional wine culture. In the past, it served as accommodation for the so-called "Hiata" (vineyard keepers) during the grape harvest. The hut also offered protection from the weather and was used to store tools.

The historic Hiata hut in the Patergraben was restored in 2012 by the village renewal association and is a popular stop on a hike through the Patergraben. Today, it is an inviting place for hikers and cyclists to stop and rest. A small information point commemorates the work of the Hiata and provides an insight into the history of viticulture in the region.

Patergraben viewpoint - far-reaching views of the Weinviertel region

Just a few minutes' walk from the Hiata hut, the Patergraben viewpoint offers a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding vineyards, the Schmidatal valley and, on a clear day, even as far as the Waldviertel. A seating area and an information board invite you to pause for a moment - perfect for anyone who loves nature, panoramic views and photo opportunities.

Hike to the Hiata hut

The W11 hiking trail leads almost 5 km from the main square in Sitzendorf to the Hiata hut and the Patergraben viewpoint. It is a leisurely, well-signposted walk that shows the Weinviertel from its most beautiful side. It is suitable for families, pleasure hikers and anyone who wants to combine regional culture, views and exercise.
