Description

In 1990, a village museum was set up in the old grist mill in Zwingendorf, into which a nature conservation showroom of the Lower Austrian LRG office was integrated. On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of Zwingendorf in 2007, the nature conservation showroom was transferred to the municipality and both it and the village museum were redesigned.

The nature conservation showroom in the village museum provides information about the rare and unique fauna and flora of the Zwingendorf nature conservation areas "Glaubersalzsteppe" and "Saliterweide". The sea milkwort (Glaux maritima), for example, has its only large-scale habitat here in the Central European continental area.

In 2012, a "nature trail" was set up in the "Glaubersalzsteppe" nature reserve. Here, information boards in German, Czech and English present the special features of the fauna and flora on salt marshes in general and the Zwingendorf nature reserve in particular. This nature trail is also very suitable for children! Admission is free of charge.

Connected to the village museum is the "Joslowitzer Heimatstube in Zwingendorf", which documents the history, culture and social life of Joslowitz (today Jaroslavice), the neighboring community of Zwingendorf across the border, as well as the expulsion of the German inhabitants in 1945/1946.

The village museum and the Joslowitzer Heimatstube can be visited free of charge at any time by appointment with the museum director.
