Description

The Parapluie (German: Regenschirm), a kind of lookout point, on the Parapluieberg is a historical landmark from the 19th century, built at a time when excursions and summer retreats were becoming fashionable. Numerous hiking and walking trails were laid out and the Parapluie served as a place to relax. As the mountain was not wooded at the time, this place offered a wonderful view over the wine town of Retz, but also beyond the borders of the country. After a long break, the Parapluie was rebuilt in 1990 by the "Altstadt Retz" village renewal association and is now a popular insider tip. There is also a weather cross nearby, which was erected as a weather blessing. This old custom of the Catholic Church asks God in the liturgy for good weather for the harvest and for protection from storms and disasters.
