Description

The Holy Stone is located on the Manhartsberg, close to the border with the Czech Republic, and is easily accessible from both Mitterretzbach and Hnanice in the Czech Republic.

In the 17th century, the place became a Christian pilgrimage destination after a man named Veit Priesler is said to have been healed by the water from a nearby spring. As a result, a fountain was built, the water of which brought relief to many sick people. More and more pilgrims came to this place to seek healing.

Construction of a large pilgrimage church began in 1750, but it was demolished again in 1784 by order of Emperor Joseph II. The foundations of the church were uncovered and restored in 1995 and a smaller chapel was later built.

Today, the Holy Stone is a popular excursion destination. An elliptically inclined viewing platform provides an impressive view over the Weinviertel and the South Moravian region.
