Leobendorf
Description
The market town of Leobendorf covers the area around Kreuzenstein Castle and consists of the villages of Leobendorf, Oberrohrbach, Unterrohrbach and Tresdorf.
The municipal area of the market town to the north of Vienna extends as far as the Danube floodplains. From the 12th century onwards, the development of the villages was always closely linked to Kreuzenstein Castle and its rulers. This cultural and historical building rises picturesquely on a wooded hill and is a popular excursion destination today.
In addition to Kreuzenstein Castle, the parish church of St. Markus with its frescoes dating from 1315, which were only restored in 1997, and a "Kaschauer Madonna" from the 15th century are among Leobendorf's special cultural assets.
Another important cultural asset for Leobendorf is the organ in the parish church, which was inaugurated in 1986 and comes from the workshop of a local master organ builder.
The "Dampf- und Dieselgarage" museum in the Unterrohrbach cadastral district is also worth a visit. Here you can see rare and well-maintained tractors, engines, various tools, showpieces from the trades, household, fashion and furnishings, as well as everyday objects that draw attention to the working conditions and human fates associated with agricultural work.
Due to the quality of living and the beautiful surroundings, there has been a strong increase in population in all the villages over the past four decades and the municipality currently has around 4900 inhabitants. Despite this strong expansion, the village character of the towns has been preserved, which will also be a concern for future expansions.
Thanks to the extremely favorable transport connections with the high-speed railroad, A22 and S1, numerous companies have settled here and we can proudly point to around 3000 jobs in the municipality.
For leisure activities, our residents and guests have access to wonderful hiking trails and cycle paths around Kreuzenstein Castle, along which a number of beautiful shrines can be admired.
Cozy wine taverns invite you to take a break during such a hike or bike tour.
