Hohenwarth-Mühlbach a.M.

Description

The market town of Hohenwarth-Mühlbach on the Manhartsberg has a very special character, situated in the beautiful transitional landscape from the Waldviertel to the Weinviertel. Gently rolling hills, lush greenery from the forests of the Manhartsberg and vineyards that produce excellent wines. A cultural landscape - simply to linger in.

Situated at the foot of the Manhartsberg, the municipality offers countless cultural treasures, such as the former fortified church towering over Hohenwarth, the former pilgrimage church "Maria Heimsuchung" in Zemling, the Gudenus family-owned Mühlbach Castle and its revitalized English landscape park, the "Hiata-Hut" in Ebersbrunn with a magnificent view of the Danube valley, a "European Way of the Cross" in Olbersdorf built to mark the opening of the Iron Curtain.

Hohenwarth is the site of the only mastodon skeleton ever found in Austria. On display in the Krahuletz Museum in Eggenburg. Worth mentioning are the circular ditches of Mühlbach, which are said to be 7000 years old.

Joseph Misson's birthplace: Biedermeier house with wooden shingle hipped roof and older, once count's estate. The integrated museum with "Muida-Stüberl", old bread oven, well and former stables houses the original manuscript of the peasant epic "Da Naz", written in the characteristic "ui dialect", written in Kurrent handwriting. Also on display are the original illustrations for the latest "Naz" edition, painted by Prof. Karl Korab. The unique pieces are owned by the museum.

The Joseph Misson hiking trails invite you to take long walks through the forests of the Manhartsberg, while the Hohenwarth hiking and cycling trail leads through the vineyards and offers a magnificent view of the countryside. The tennis court in Mühlbach and the clay pigeon shooting range in Ebersbrunn offer further sporting opportunities.
