The first documented mention dates back to 1060 and it is not known whether Field Marshal Radetzky, who was laid to rest on Heldenberg, preferred the Grüne Veltliner from the surrounding hills. But he was certainly a welcome guest in the wine cellars here, which are also happy to open their doors to you, dear guests! Delicious delicacies and excellent wine specialties in the Buschenschank (typical taverns) and wineries invite you to linger.

Away from busy roads, cyclists can discover the region's charms. Around 100 km of signposted cycle paths provide carefree cycling pleasure. The network of hiking trails and bridleways is also well developed. The "Radetzkymarsch" offers the opportunity to hike through the Schmidatal to the most beautiful viewpoints, past chapels and old wayside shrines or the bison enclosure, a very special experience.
