Description

This hike leads over Felling to Vranov, a picturesque small town on the Thaya. The return route runs on the Czech side of the Thaya, right through the national park.

Route description Hardegg – Vranov circular hiking trail

Main square in Hardegg - following hiking trail 630/607 to Felling - detour via the Christbaumsteig (Hardegg circular hiking trail 3) to the Maxplateau viewpoint possible - from the village square in Felling past the cemetery and the memorial to the state border - in the Czech Republic the path leads onto an asphalt road – cross this and follow the blue path towards Vranov to the village green of Podmýče - Gräfin Helena's spring and old bunker facilities on the left – Vranov Castle - path through the forest park into the town - to the right you reach the town center via the Thaya bridge.

Town center Vranov, turn right before the bus station – red marking along the left bank of the Thaya downstream – about 15 minutes after a suspension bridge (do not cross) the path branches off to the left – follow the red markers, side path to the viewpoint by the obelisk after about 1 hour, a further 2 km to the asphalt road – to the left the road leads to the visitor center in Čížov (exhibition and remains of the Iron Curtain), to the right the road goes down to Hardegg – after 1 km towards Hardegg a side path leads right to the Hardegg watchtower – back on the road it goes steeply downhill to Hardegg. Alternative route from the asphalt road: after a short distance leave the asphalt road to the right into the forest – green marking to the Thaya bridge (bunker facilities along the way)
